The Alexandrinsky Theatre

The Theatre is one of the oldest national theatres in Russia. From the very beginning of its existence this Theatre became one of the empire theatres and the cradle of the dramatic art. Second name -The Russian State Pushkin Academy Drama Theatre. The troupe of the Theatre was created by the order of empress Elizabeth on August 30, 1756, exactly this date is considered to be the birthday of Russian national theatre. In 1832 the Theatre was named in honor of Nicolas I’s wife Alexandra Feodorovna.
